An Invaluable Planning Tool: Greenway Analyst

No matter how small your group or how big your ideas, we are fortunate to have an incredible tool that helps evaluate one of the most difficult parts of creating greenspace. Greenway Analyst uses Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to pinpoint the ideal location for trails, parks and greenways.

This software determines optimal sites by considering connectivity features such as existing trails, linear infrastructure, floodplains, streams and rivers, and roads. Also considered are featured destinations such as cultural resources, public places, existing greenspace, wetlands, lakes, and conservation opportunity areas. If your community has plenty of potential greenspace, it even can help you prioritize where to get started.

Photo Science and Georgia Transmission Corporation developed Corridor Analyst© GIS software to map out locations for power lines. Now Photo Science and Georgia Transmission, friends of the MillionMile Greenway, have created a version for us. We are proud to share this invaluable tool with MMG affiliates. The Next Mile!

We are currently mentoring pilot programs in Georgia to help them establish local greenway initiatives. We name new pilot projects quarterly, for they are the first building blocks to creating a network of greenways throughout Georgia, the Southeast and beyond.
