MillionMile Greenway Announces Board of Directors
Expertise will serve mission of conservation, recreation and connectivity

ATLANTA (July 18, 2008) – MillionMile Greenway (MMG), a new not-for-profit that helps communities conserve green space and connect greenways, has appointed its first-ever board of directors. The nine-member board will oversee the formation of the organization and establish a multi-year growth plan.

Jim Langford, founder of MMG, is joined by eight directors with backgrounds that will help MMG fulfill its mission of helping individuals, governments and other not-for-profits conserve greenspace for recreation and connectivity to other greenways and trails.

The following will serve a two-year term on the MMG board and build the organization:

Ryan Gravel: Gravel works in the urban design practice of Perkins+Will, an international architecture and design firm. He developed the original idea of the Atlanta Beltline project during his graduate school years at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Jesse Glasgow: Glasgow is a program manager for Photo Science Inc. and aided in the development of technology-based tools Corridor Analyst© and Greenway Analyst. The Greenway Analyst will help MMG affiliates locate available and suitable land to create greenways.

Angela Graham: Graham serves as a project manager of Silverman Construction Program Management. She is a previous recipient of the “One TPL National Award for Diversity” and the YWCA and Arthur and Stephanie Blank’s "Woman of Achievement Award."

Phillip Hoover: Hoover is a partner at Smith, Gambrell & Russell LLP, in the environmental and sustainability practice. He has published several articles and delivered presentations on Brownfield development and conservation easements.

Jim Langford: Langford founded MMG as an extension of his many years of conservation work in the non-profit sector. He previously served as Georgia director for the Trust for Public Land and as a member of the Georgia Board of Natural Resources. He also created the Coosawattee Foundation, an archaeology research and preservation organization headquartered in Calhoun, Georgia, and he has previously served as a member of the Georgia Humanities Council and the Governor’s Environmental Advisory Council. In his for-profit life, he worked for The Coca-Cola Company in multiple positions in the United States and Latin America, and he was a co-founder and executive of high technology enterprises for more than 20 years.

Tom Parker: Parker is the vice president of external affairs and member relations for Georgia Transmission Corp. (GTC). GTC plans, builds and maintains electric transmission lines and substations.

Susan Rutherford: Rutherford manages the Greenway Division of the Bureau of Watershed Protection in the City of Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management. She currently manages the City’s $25 million Greenway Acquisition Project.

Bo Spalding: Spalding is a founding partner of Jackson Spalding, a marketing communications firm located in Atlanta. He is also involved with the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, the Midtown Alliance and Agnes Scott College.

Robert Turner: Turner practices transactional law at Stites & Harbison, specializing in commercial leasing, acquisition and dispositions, real estate finance and general business. He also serves on the advisory council for the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House.

"The board members have supported MillionMile Greenway since I first presented the idea to them. All of the members bring a special knowledge that will help MMG succeed in connecting greenways across Georgia, the Southeast and other parts of the country," said Langford.

MMG is currently consulting on pilot greenway projects in Newton County, Ga., Spotsylvania County, Va. and on the Atlantic coast of Georgia.
